At a glance, one might think that the gameplay is easy, but there’s a twist. The lines connecting the matching tiles mustn’t contain more than two 90-degree bends, and the path between them must be clear unless they’re adjacent to one another.

Some of the butterfly wings are quite similar and hard to distinguish, so this fact won’t make it any easier. The 2-minute time limit isn’t helpful either, but at least upon pairing identical tiles, you’ll add +1 second to the current timer. Despite the formidable challenges, due to the eye-catching 2D graphics and awesome music, this amazing puzzle game is overall relaxing and very enjoyable.

How to play Butterfly Shimai

The very beginning is the hardest part of this game since the tile-matching possibilities are limited. You must quickly scan the board for adjacent identical wings in the middle and on each side since these are the only ones you’ll be able to pair. Once you’re having trouble finding matches quickly, don’t hesitate to use the shuffle and hints available to increase your chances of clearing the board. If you manage to clear it, the cards are randomly arranged on the next board, and you’ll have these hints available once again.

What are the controls for Butterfly Shimai?

Butterfly Shimai is optimized for both PC and mobile devices, but we enjoyed playing it slightly more on a touchscreen device. Click or tap on the open identical tiles to match and remove them from the board. We found tapping the butterfly wings much more immersive compared to clicking on them with a mouse pointer.
